As majority partner in a joint venture with Barton Malow, Bernards completed this five-year renovation project for the historic Pasadena Rose Bowl. This multi-phased project encompassed a three-fold mission: to ensure the stadium’s status as a preeminent college football stadium, to maintain its National Historic Landmark designation, and to complete construction while keeping the facility fully operational.
Renovations comprised demolition and new construction of the press box structure, replacement of bench and stadium seats, restored historic scoreboards, and widened stadium entrance tunnels and gates.
Upgrades to the complex included subterranean field lounges, concourse lounges, concessions, ticket booths and turnstiles, and a utility loop under the concourse.
To facilitate the Rose Bowl’s operations schedule for collegiate football, soccer games, concerts, flea markets and special events throughout the project, the team developed a highly complex multi-layered phasing plan.
